Perioperative diabetes insipidus: Report of two unusual cases

Diabetes insipidus (DI) is a rare clinical condition in the postoperative period. Post-surgery polyuria common finding, as body excretes excessive fluid given during surgery. It important to diagnose and differentiate DI from post-operative polyuria, can lead severe dehydration electrolyte disturbances. We report two unusual cases of perioperative requiring desmopressin therapy. A 46-year-old healthy male patient developed intraoperative leading hypernatremia anterior cervical discectomy fusion. Anesthesia was maintained with propofol remifentanil target-controlled infusion (TCI). After hours surgery, became polyuric passing diluted urine. He received hydration. The recovered transferred ward, then, discharged home without any or neurological problems. 36-year-old underwent elective 3rd ventricular cyst excision. Pre-anesthesia assessment did not reveal comorbidities surgery uneventful. His anesthesia TCI (target-controlled infusion). In period, he hydration desmopressin. patient's further recovery through ward. occurrence above-mentioned surgeries very rare. Both surgical procedures medications cause DI.
